Vanadium carbide has the general characteristics of transition group metal carbides such as high hardness, melting point and high temperature strength, and has good electrical and thermal conductivity, so it has been  widely used in iron and steel metallurgy, cemented carbide, electronic products, catalysts and high-temperature coating materials and other fields. Among them, vanadium carbide added to steel can improve the wear resistance, corrosion resistance, toughness, strength, ductility, hardness, thermal fatigue resistance and other comprehensive properties of steel, and can be  used as a wear-resistant material in different cutting and wear-resistant tools. In addition, vanadium carbide has also been widely used as a new catalyst due to its high activity, selectivity, stability and ability to resist "catalyst poisoning" in hydrocarbon reactions. In addition, vanadium carbide can also be used as a new carbon source to synthesize diamond. The most important role of vanadium carbide is that it is used as a grain inhibitor in the fields of cemented carbide and cermet, which can effectively prevent the growth of WC grains in the sintering process.In addition, vanadium carbide can also be used as a cathode material for lithium-ion batteries and a potential component of supercapacitors, and nitrogen-doped vanadium carbide as a potential counterelectrode catalyst in solar cells.
